The history of the college begins back in 1930, when the first five-year plan for the development of the national economy of the USSR provided for the improvement of medical care to the population and the strengthening of disease prevention.
The Higher Medical College is one of the oldest educational institutions in the city of Shymkent.
For 90 years, the college has been training specialists with secondary medical education and today is one of the best educational institutions in the city of Shymkent.

The student hostel is located on the territory of our medical college, a five-story building is located next to the academic buildings, with a total of 204 beds in the hostel.
The hostel was renovated in 2014. All rooms are equipped with modern new furniture, i.e. all conditions for students ‘ accommodation are created. On each floor there are two household rooms for cooking. On the first floor there is a seating area equipped with upholstered furniture and a TV, on the third floor there is a self – preparation room for classes, on the fourth floor there is a room for self-realization of students with a TV, computers , and library stock.
The hostel has a gym and an assembly hall, a dining room, a medical center , two shower rooms equipped with Ariston water heaters, a laundry room with modern washing machines, and a drying room. In the courtyard of the hostel there is a sports ground with volleyball and basketball fields.
Shymkent Medical College in every way contributes to the formation of a professionally competent, harmoniously developed personality, the education of a citizen who is able to comprehend, raise and solve the problems of society, taking into account social, ethical, cultural, environmental aspects, to be a tolerant, morally responsible employee, easily adaptable in a team, ready to work in a competitive environment.
SMK is the base of the educational and methodological association in the specialty “Pharmacy” in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The College is guided by the principles of “open system”, intensive and mutually beneficial cooperation, including international cooperation, in cooperation with educational and medical organizations, professional communities.
The College trains mid-level medical workers in the following specialties: medical care with the qualification of paramedic and obstetrician, nursing, hygiene and epidemiology, pharmacy, dentistry with the qualification of dentist and dental technician, laboratory diagnostics.
The college has 175 medical teachers.
During the work of the educational institution, more than 29,000 specialists have been trained.
